Katelyn Tuohy and her teammates keep winning championships, setting records and earning awards.
The honors keep rolling in for Katelyn Tuohy and her teammates on the women’s cross country team after winning the individual and team national championships in November. It was the second consecutive NCAA championship for the team, while Tuohy set a course record in winning the individual title.
Since then, Tuohy, a sophomore from Stony Point, N.Y., has been named the 2023 Honda Award winner for cross country, making her a finalist for the Honda Cup as the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year. Her teammate, junior Kelsey Chmiel, was one of four finalists for the Honda Award after finishing third in the NCAA championship.
Tuohy was also named the ACC Women’s Runner of the Year and the National Women’s Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). In March, she was named the ACC Indoor Track Performer of the Year.
In January, Tuohy set an NCAA indoor record for the mile, finishing a race in New York against professional runners with a time of 4:24.26.
Head Coach Laurie Henes ’92 was named the ACC Women’s Coach of the Year for the seventh straight season and National Women’s Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year. The team was named the USTFCCCA National Scholar Team of the Year.
